| | | 2008 NACRAO Elections
Below is the slate of nominees proposed by the Nominations and Elections Committee. NACRAO voting members will have the opportunity to vote on these nominees, or other nominations which may be offered from the floor, during the annual business meeting on Thursday, November 6, during the noon meal.
Each of the nominees submitted a short article to introduce themselves to the membership.
Jason Blohm – Nominee for President-Elect
Jason Blohm, Assistant Director Office of Recruitment Services University of Nebraska at Omaha
Fall 2008 begins my 6th year at UNO as well as in NACRAO. I have traversed just about every highway, byway, and dirt road in Nebraska in search of future Mavericks.
Ever since my first year on the road I have been involved in NACRAO. After attending the New Counselor’s Workshop I was hooked! I immediately got involved by chairing the committee to plan that workshop for the next two years. I also have helped plan 3 NACRAO Fall Conference events, and chaired the LAC committee for the 2006 conference at Mahoney State Park. The last two years I have served on the Board of Directors as Vice-President of Communication. I have also had the opportunity to attend three AACRAO Annual Meetings and presented a session in Orlando last spring.
In May, 2008, I received my Master’s of Public Administration degree from UNO and my wife Amber and I recently moved into our first home this October. No kids yet, but the wife may have something to say about that soon.
Melinda Stoner – Nominee for Vice President for Communications
Melinda Stoner, Registrar, Dana College
Melinda began her 6th year as registrar at Dana College last August. From 2001 to 2003, she worked in Sioux City, Iowa in a dual position with Western Iowa Tech Community College and Buena Vista University as an admissions advisor, recruiting high school students to WITCC and community college students to BVU. From 1996-2001, she was an academic development specialist for Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, which is where she began her career in higher education. Melinda earned her B.S. degree from the University of Iowa, with a major in elementary education. She feels very fortunate to have experienced such a variety of institutions, from the large public university she graduated from, to the community college and small private colleges where she has worked. Each has been such a great learning experience!
Melinda has been a member of NACRAO since she joined Dana College in 2003 and has served on the local arrangements committee for two years. In her “free” time she serves as the advancement coordinator for one of the Cub Scout Packs in Blair where her husband, Matt, and two sons, Colton and Dalton, are also active members.
Kevin Halle – Nominee for Secretary
I have worked for the Admissions office at Wayne State College since the fall of 2001. During my time at Wayne State I have been fortunate to serve NACRAO for several years through membership on a variety of committees: The Admissions Committee (New Counselor Workshop); N.O.W Bus Tour, the Community College Transfer Committee and Local Arrangements for Fall Conference in South Sioux City. I see this nomination to the NACRAO board as another door swinging wide open, allowing me to give back. NACRAO is a great organization with strong leaders, who have had an impact on me and don’t know it.
